In “The Story of Stuff” Annie Leonard argues that planned obsolescence is a system that designs products to break apart. Moreover, these big corporations know that those products they made will only last a short while so it is transient. One day we will have to face those issues and find a better situation. Meanwhile, these big corporations like Best buy, Target, Wal-Mart and other business will continue to increase their profit. However, many of these products are toxic to our environment as well as our health. I feel that majority of those manufacture products are saturated. This operation is not obligatory and I feel like our human rights are being violated from all this madness. On a much lower scale I can related to this issue. When I was thirteen years old a man name john sold me a fake gold chain that was broke but, I did not realize it until I got home. I was so excited and gullible at that age. I did not know he deceived me until I bring it to the jewelry store to get fixes. I was extremely angry at him so once I saw john again he got a beat down he would never forget amen (LOL).

Another issue Leonard argues is perceived obsolescence which is hilarious to me. I watched people cried and lied to keep up with the latest fashion. These companies who use marketing strategy are at their acme in this economy. They create this illusion in people mind that last year products are tawdry and not worst wearing. Consumers have feed off these false allegations and believe whatever the media tells them. We have been suffering for a very long time since 1950 war that took places. This consumer madness started with companies saturating the market to boost our economy. I can not say this is right or wrong, but if I could persuade the world as the media have done. I would tell everyone to invest in some of my ideas? For instance, I would love to open up a club in midtown Manhattan with a restaurant/bar and persuade everyone to purchases a bottle of liquor every night. Hey the media does it to people all the time so can I?

In “Let Them Eat Fat” Greg Critser spoke about fast foods companies who target poor/ middle class proletarians. They use marketing strategies to persuade customers such as young black adolescence.

I hate the idea of how vindictive these fast food places conduct business. Now that I am knowledgeable about this capricious act I will not purchase any more fast food. We need an advocate to aid poor/ middle class proletarians from Mc Donald’s and other organized avaricious corporations. On the other hand, people in power can be incongruous that is why they target uneducated individuals who tried to be frugal by spending less money for a meal to eat. Everyone should have the right to eat a healthy balanced meal in America whether you are poor/ middle class or wealthy.

The main reason why I am extremely repudiate is simply because I am a young black male who is in a middle class barrier and my neighborhood is surrounded by fast food places. Secondly, my children enjoy eating Mc Donald’s food as well as other fast food restaurants occasionally. In addition fast food places just started getting letter grades on how clean there establishments are. However, people who eat from these places on a regular basis develop serious health issues. I know because in my community I analyze the enormous amount of individual males and females I grew up with that are obese.

It is evident that Mc Donald’s and other fast food restaurants are not healthy balance meals for people to eat. One fact that I can corroborate is the video I saw in Dr. X class where a man in great health name Morgan ate Mc Donald’s for thirty days. After his thirty day experiment the doctor told him he had a lot of health issues because of what he ate. Also fast food restaurants are using marketing strategies according to Critser he quoted “If we don’t recommend a supersize, the supersize is free! “ Does that sound crazy or what how they embellish an illusion in peoples' mind subconsciously. Now nutritionists and dietitians would possibly agree that people who eat fast food can be malleable able to be molded or manipulated.

Finally, I am going to be unequivocal and say I believe we can do something about these fast food establishments now. For instance, we can stop being spendthrift and stop waiving our rights because we are poor/ middle class individuals. Once we abet one another and stop eating from these places they would become defunct no longer in existence or they would change there policies. I wish I had been more knowledgeable about this a long time ago. Healthy eating is our goal and we are demanding it not asking. However, our parents’ and grandparents’ and so on would not even recognize some of the things we eat day. Eating healthy will help us reach our acme in life and we are tired of these complacent establishments.

In “Sleep Dealer” Memo explains how he wants to live the America dream, but what is the American dream? Memo’s fantasy of the American dream was ostensible said to be true, but perhaps not true. I think we can all relate to that because living in America is not all what it seems. For instance, we are suppose to have freedom of speech but we all know that is not the case.

Memo’s family was trying to tell him that what you see on TV in America is not the way you envision it to be. However Memo is a young man so he will have to experience some uncanny things before he understands his dream which is really a dystopia.

Now Memo is heading to America and he meets a young lady name Luz on the bus. Luz started out as a woman who wanted to sell his memory. She took Memo to a place where he got connected to nodes where he finally started working at cybermaquilas. Memo stayed focused so he would not digress from his mission, which was to live the American dream.

Luz on the other hand was working with a man name Rudy. Rudy's role in the America dream was a soldier who killed Memo's father. Later on Memo found out about Luz's unscrupulous role she played, which was selling memories of him. Memo become aloof and did not want to associate with her for some time. Then he also found out about the memories that Luz sold to Rudy who killed his father which I mentioned. Rudy felt horrible but it was to late because Memo's father was dead.

Finally "Luz, Memo, and Rudy worked together to have Rudy connect to his drone from Memo's Sleep Dealer so that Rudy can use it to blow up the dam near Memo's village and return the river to the villagers of Santa Ana del Rio". That was Memo's father dam and Memo's family was so excited.

In “The new industrial migrants (part 1)” Eric Schlosser explains how meatpacking industrial places turnover rates are profitable for many reasons. The proletarians who work in these places quit or get fired every three month so insurance cost is low. Another benefit for the meatpacking industrial is when their employers do not still long enough to receive vacation time.

In “The new industrial migrants (part2)” Eric Schlosser explains how meatpacking industrial target poor communities in the US in an unscrupulous way just so they can increase their profits.

The meatpacking industrial are flippant because they do not care about humanity at all. Moreover, they are cantankerous difficult to deal with and all they know how to do is capitalize off of poor immigrants misfortune. I believe the meatpacking industrial have been successful at high turnover only because they design for it to be that way. Now the American who used to earn middle class income are being replaces with indigent immigrants.

The reasons why I strongly feel that meatpacking business owners are avaricious and they pray on immigrant indigent people because they knew these individual need them. However, I dislike how that would target homeless people also. The meatpacking industrial is just charlatan who focuses on subjugating poor people in need.

American on the other hand have been wasting time working for these meatpacking industry simply because they time was only transient. I understand why the meatpacking industrial did what they did but, it was wrong how they use people. This is not the American dream I always envision this is flippant behavior from avaricious business owners.

In the food unit I will describe how it connects to the units I previously learned. First of all the food unit for instance was designed to empower society with knowledge, so we can know the truth about what we eat. In the other units like (“The Allegory of the Cave, “The Truman Show, The Matrix, “Red Pill or Blue Pill?” etc.) they were trying to deliver the same message to society as far as exposing us to the truth. The main theme of our class is to enhance us with the appropriate information so we can become adept thinkers. In order to make a change in our lives, we have to first change the way we think. Besides, we have more control than you can imagine for example, once you are knowledgeable about any topic. The next step is to apply what you know and take action. That is what each unit is trying to enforce us to do learn, which is to plan then take action on the information you been given.

Now I will explain one out of the six-items listed that I have done well in and what improvements that could help me become an impeccable writer. In the evaluation of the two CATs for the other students, I learned from examining mistakes they made which allowed me to be proficient and conscious while writing. At the same time I will continue to practice so that I can do well on my CAT on November 30th. In the meantime I will look over other students work on Google Groups to get a better understanding of what not to do. Nevertheless I improved a lot compared to when I first started this class. In fact, I am aware of the grammar errors I have been having problems with. Also in the beginning I had some difficulties using my blog which I no longer have. Writing is one of the many ways that allows me to express my thoughts on paper. In this third unit it is really helpful to me because it is an eye opener. I recently stopped buying water from the supermarkets thanks to watching the video on the food unit. It was interesting to know that tap water and some bottle water are the same. Now that I stopped buying water from the supermarkets, I can save 40 to 60 dollars monthly. Finally I like to give thanks to my teacher Dr. X for inspiring me to become a great writer.

Ps, Dr. X I fixed my grammar error on all my blog from 1 – 13.

In the Meatrix video the main idea was about spreading the word to consumers that support these factory farms. There were animal cruelty, antibiotic resistant germs, massive pollution, and there were family farms destroyed in this communities. Moopheus gave Leo an opportunity to know the truth so he offers him some pills. The red pill would free him from his fantasy world and show him the truth about factory farms. The blue pill would keep him in the fantasy world. Finally he made a chose to know the truth and it was horrible for him to know how these animals were being mistreated.

The main point of the Meatric 11 Revolting was to persuade people to stop purchasing from the dairy factory and eat from healthier small farmers. According to Moopheus in the past two years they freed ten million minds from the meatric. Their goal was to stop the agents of the meatric from pumping cow with RBGH which is an artificial growth hormone that Canada and the European Union have both banned. Also the agents do not care about antibiotic overuse, artificial hormone, and they made these cow drink other died cows blood which created mad cow disease. Lastly as I said before healthy eating and stopping those agents was Moopheus and Leo focus.

The main idea of the Meatric “previously inside the Meatric” was about the dangerous working condition, manure in the meats, but most importantly it was all about the profit. “This factory could process five thousand cows in a single day”. The agents’ goals were to supply as much cows so they could keep up with the demand of the fast food nation. They felt their worker was replaceable so they do not care about their working condition. In addition the factor was moving at a speed so fast which cause manure to get on their meats.

I can totally do with out (Go- Gurt, Breakfast-cereal bars, Nondairy creamer, and Protein water) simple because I eat healthy foods that satisfy my appetite.

There is no way I would buy products with high- fructose corn syrup. When I go grocery shopping, I always look at the labels to see the ingredients so if I saw anything that is unfamiliar and words that is unpronounceable I would put it back.

It would be impossible for me or my family to compromise our health. Moreover companies should not be allowed to false advertise health claim if it is not truth. It is becoming extremely obvious that food products are labeling things that is not truth.

It is almost impossible to shop in supermarket now they have strategies like fresh foods are only located on the walls. Then processed foods are in the center of the store and this marketing strategy is crazy. I enjoy eating real food and that is the bottom line.

It will be a life changing process but it is do-able to stop spending my money at these supermarkets. The farmer market would be an intelligent decision to make what more can I say besides eating nutritional quality foods are better.

I maybe able to do with mostly eating plants especially leave. Plants have been known to things like antioxidants, fiber, and Omega-3 which is an essential to a healthy diet. Also if you eat a plants-based diet you will consume fewer calories.

I may be able to do that as far as pay more, eat less because I enjoy eating health foods. We should all be able to eat healthy but unfortunately there are people who still can not afford quality food.

I can totally do a cook meal right now as we speak. Just because fast foods are cheap, quick, and easy it does not mean it is good for your body.

The main idea of the video was to empower society with facts about tap water and bottle water myth. Annie Leonard is a narrator who spoke out about the myth and false believes that the manufactures told us for many years. Also there were studies that took places to test whether tap water was contaminated.

I was surprised by what the reality video revealed because I thought for many years that tap water was not safe. However there were studies on five different waters and it showed that the most expense one which is Evian was rated as the worst. Wow!!!! I thought how that can be true. Also tap water came in third places it was shocking to me but at the same time now I know the true. Before this video I use to spend about sixty dollar monthly on bottle water. Although this may be true my lady still enjoys her bottle water.

I believe our reality can be different if we stop purchasing bottle water because it is creating a major pollution problem. In fact if there were less pollution our environment will have a better quality of air to breathe. We could make our life different definitely, it start with simple things like stop buying bottle water. Then demand that we have clean water resources to drink. Next we can take active towards people and manufactory that is causing this situation. Finally after all of this chaos is over hopefully this issue will be resolve or at least some of them.

In the article” Imitation of Film: Here’s Smoking at you, kid” by Nicholas Balakar. There was a nationwide survey published in the November issue of Pediatrics reports on children ages 10 to 14. The reports included information about the influence that R-rated movies has on young children smoking. “R-rated movies contain twice as much smoking as other films, said Dr. James D. Sargent, the lead author on the study and a professor of pediatrics at Dartmouth Medical School".

I agree with Dr. James in this case because in R-rated movies the actors are smoking constantly and they are our children heroes. Although this may be true, parents need to monitor what their children are watching. At the same time children who are in the fourth or fifth grade should know right from wrong, but negativity can be a powerful influence on young adolescents. In any case whether you are a young adolescent or an adult, smoking is extremely dangerous to our bodies. For instance smoking can cause cancer and some cancers are treatable while others can be fatal.

The reason why I agree with Dr. James in this situation is because I have a daughter who is in the fifth grade. I do not allow her to watch R-rated movies because of the smoking and other activities that go on in those movies. In spite of the smoking in R-rated movies there are actors drinking alcohol, using drugs, and sexual scenes in these movies. Nevertheless it makes a parent's job more arduous raising children who have been exposed to R-rated movies because now you have to explain not only why smoking is dangerous, but also the other things they saw as well. In other words there are numerous things as I have noted on alcohol, drugs, and sexual scenes so who really want to explain these topics to a fourth or fifth grader.

Furthermore, my evidence that I can corroborate will include my experience as a young adolescent. When I was in the fourth and fifth grade I was very curious while watching R-rated movies. As an adolescent I was influenced by some actors like Freddy Kruger, Jason and many others. On these films there were other actors who I saw smoking and I felt that it was cool. I started smoking at the age of twelve years old moreover; I thought it made me cool. R-rated movies had a great influence on a lot of things I did growing up. However I would not want my children to follow what I have done as far as smoking at a young age. In fact Dr. James quoted “Our studies show that kids begin to view R- rated movies at about the fourth or fifth grade.”

In conclusion, there were studies done which involved a 6,522 interview with children nationwide about their movies- viewing habits. At the same time a fifty film were randomly chosen from a list of 532 box offices hits from 1998 through 2003. As I have shown in my writing how R-rated movies play a major role in younger children live. Before this is an issue we as parents should work together on and stop our children from watching R-rated movies.
