In Plato '' The Allegory of the Cave'' Socrates is trying to enlighten Glaucon. Socrates is explaining how situation in peoples life can make them feel like they're strap in darkness. He's uses metaphor to explain away to envision a vivid picture like marionette players acting as puppets chained from their necks and legs. Glaucon is in deep thought trying to analyze what Socrates really meant.
Supposes they are prisoner living in caves that never saw light before. All they know is what they saw like shadows and echo. Then one day the prisoners are set free from the cave of darkness into the light. It would take sometime for them to adjust to the light and there new environment, which would be reality. Socrates knew that trying to explain to the prisoners what they saw before was an illusion would be difficult.
Finally once they become accustom to reality it would be a lot for them to absorb like wisdom and understanding things. Then they would see clearly what life have to offer them. This is a lesson for everyone to still focus and stop taking life as a joke. I believe that's what Socrates is implying by all this.

ReplyDeleteHi! My name is Anna and I am going to comment on your blog according to what the professor said. The thesis of the passage is clearly and correctly stated in your summary. It gave a lot of information. You showed many details and showed what exactly happened in the story. You paraphrased and said it in your own words in your summary. You have stated some important supporting ideas correctly. All the unimportant ideas are excluded. It organised well and it makes good sense. It makes sense, and I understand what you meant to write. You do have a little grammar mistake in some parts. I can now know more stuff about what went on in the story. You only said one sentence about your conclusion. It need to include your conclusion more. Good job!
ReplyDeleteHi
ReplyDeleteI am student of class 099 and my professor asked me to write a comment on your summery. Since the English is my second language I may not be a good commentator but I try my best to describe which parts you had done good and which you wasn't on the basis of my knowledge on how to write summery.
So here I am, you have clearly stated the main idea of this passage “Enlighten.”
There are enough supporting ideas in your summery but there is one unimportant topic are included. Like, "Glaucon is in deep thought trying to analyze what Socrates really meant."
Yes, you had written the summery in your own words.
I didn’t see much grammar mistake.
You clearly understood the passage.
However, you have included your personal opinion in this summery which you not supposed to.
I hope you find my comment helpful.
Thank you.
I think you caught some of the main meanings of Plato's allegory. Not bad.
